Safeguarding Policy for SAS Martial Arts
At SAS Martial Arts, we are committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for all participants, especially children, young people, and vulnerable adults. This safeguarding policy outlines our commitment to protecting the welfare of all individuals involved in our classes and activities.
1. Safeguarding Statement:
1.1. SAS Martial Arts is dedicated to safeguarding the well-being of all participants, ensuring their safety and protection from harm, abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
1.2. We recognize our responsibility to promote the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults and to create an environment where they can thrive and develop their martial arts skills in a safe and inclusive manner.
2. Appointment of Instructors:
2.1. All SAS Martial Arts instructors undergo a rigorous selection process, including background checks and verification of qualifications.
2.2. Our instructors are required to hold valid Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificates, formerly known as CRB checks, to ensure they are suitable to work with children and vulnerable adults.
2.3. Any instructor found to have a criminal record that may pose a risk to participants will not be permitted to work with vulnerable individuals and may be subject to disciplinary action.
3. Code of Conduct for Instructors:
3.1. SAS Martial Arts instructors are expected to adhere to a strict code of conduct, including:

Treating all participants with respect, dignity, and fairness.

Maintaining appropriate boundaries with participants and avoiding any behavior that could be perceived as abusive or inappropriate.

Acting in the best interests of participants and prioritizing their safety and well-being at all times.

Reporting any concerns or suspicions of abuse or neglect to the designated safeguarding officer.
4. Training and Awareness:
4.1. All SAS Martial Arts instructors receive training on safeguarding policies and procedures, including recognizing signs of abuse, appropriate response protocols, and reporting mechanisms.
4.2. Instructors are regularly updated on changes to safeguarding legislation and best practices to ensure they remain informed and equipped to fulfill their safeguarding responsibilities effectively.
5. Reporting Procedures:
5.1. Any concerns or suspicions of abuse, neglect, or safeguarding incidents involving participants must be reported immediately to the designated safeguarding officer.
5.2. Reports will be handled confidentially and sensitively, and appropriate action will be taken in accordance with SAS Martial Arts' safeguarding procedures and legal obligations.
6. Promotion of Safeguarding:
6.1. SAS Martial Arts will actively promote safeguarding awareness among participants, parents/guardians, and staff through information sessions, educational materials, and communication channels.
6.2. Participants and their families will be encouraged to raise any safeguarding concerns or questions with the designated safeguarding officer, who will provide support and guidance as needed.
7. Review and Monitoring:
7.1. This safeguarding policy will be reviewed and updated regularly to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and best practice standards.
7.2. SAS Martial Arts will monitor the implementation of safeguarding procedures and seek feedback from participants and stakeholders to continually improve our safeguarding practices.
